Sometimes I find that a single wood shape from the beautifully wide range of Calico Craft Parts needs to stand alone - in this case the absolutely gorgeous Art Deco & Nouveau Daffodil Ornament.
The really cool thing with Calico Craft Parts is that they all come in different sizes to choose from - so I found the perfect size to go with one of the round splint boxes from my stash!
I had the idea of filling the gaps inside the ornament with something resin-looking and stumbled across the DecoArt Clear Pouring Topcoat!
It was a bit of an experiment but it worked out just perfectly! I only needed to be very patient because drying time took about a night (due to the thick coat I had poured inside the ornament's gaps and crevices). But the result was definitely worth the wait! Yay!
I had prepared the splint box by adding a coat of matte DecoArt Decou-Page to the box's outside and lid and the ornament was glued to the lid during this step as well of course.
Then I had added washes of DecoArt media fluid acrylics Cobalt Teal Hue, Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide.
Using DecoArt premium Titanium White I dry brushed the glued on ornament for a base layer.
On top of that I dabbed on DecoArt premium acrylic paints Cobalt Teal Hue and Quinacridone Gold Hue and also added a wash of these to the lid's edge.
Then I had to be daring and fill the ornament with the pouring topcoat! Final touches with DecoArt Metallic Lustre Gold Rush were added the next day after the pouring topcoat had fully cured.
Et voilá!
I hope you like my little experiment! I love that you can create a quick faux resin- or enamel-like effect by just pouring the topcoat on top and spreading it by moving and tipping the surface until all the gaps are filled properly.
Hugs and happy crafting!
