Hello everyone!

I was inspired to create an amazing Christmas gift idea and used as a base a country star mixed media board from Calico Craft Parts.

You can find this pieces in several sizes for big and small handmade gift projects.  I want a project in monochrome style with less color, but a lot of texture.

I worked with white gesso and different textures and structures for the background. In the centre is an awesome snow globe framed by a wreath of snowflakes, only two magical shapes from the latest Christmas collection.

MDF shapes were supplemented with cutting dies, dried natural materials, a paper rose and ribbon.

Fabric Art collage - Peace on Earth Winterdream

  

  Hello everyone!

 

 I felt like working with fabric scraps again and create a art collage

 in winter christmas mood.

 

I sewed an adorable winter cottage from fabric scraps 

and  mixed different fabrics with jeans,

 added a door with a MDF shape. The natural colors of the shapes 

contrast very well with denim.

Several structure in background were made with fabric, 

wallpaper and corrugated cardboard

leftovers.

Baubles got some silver glitter and were backed with linen fabric.

Altered Art - Xmas Bottle

 

 Hello everyone!

 

Although Halloween is over,  these are the magical times of the year, 

we start with the preparations for christmas and 

long dark evenings invite again to tell stories.

 

I was inspired to create a new christmas gift project, 

it's a bottle in Altered Art.

 

I worked with Decoupage technique and combined this mixed media piece

 with MDF shapes, outcast's from silicone moulds and a lot of snow texture.

A vintage Christmas plaque by guest designer Lori Woods

 

Hello creative friends! I'm very happy to be back with my second guest design project for this month. 

For this project I wanted to keep it quite simple and really showcase some of the amazing MDF shapes available. I went for an old fashioned, shabby vintage look and kept the colour palette quite basic.

I started by covering one of the Gothic arch mixed media boards in white crackle paste. Once this dried I went around the edge with some gold paint.   

I applied a quick coat of white gesso to the Santa sleigh, Deco snowflakes corners, and Winter tree scene shapes and then coloured them with acrylic paints. To give that shabby snowy look, I then dry brushed white gesso over the top of everything. For the Mini deer sheet, the colour of the mdf was already perfect for the deer so I just gave them a gesso dry brush.

Then it was time to glue everything to the board. For the santa sleigh and the deer that are at the front of the composition, I layered some thick card underneath them so that they would pop out a little and give the piece some dimension. To finish everything off I added a star embellishment at the top of the arch to guide santa's sleigh! I hope this gives you some Christmassy inspiration for your seasonal crafting 🎄🎅

Let it snow plaque by Louise

 

Pretty title and much as I love to look at snowy scenes, I don’t much like having to go out in it unless it’s a walk in the woods or up the hills. Shopping and chores are not so great in snow so maybe it could hold off till late  December lol.

I made this plaque inspired by the lovely little sledge shape. I adore winter crafting. Not just christmas (or in my case Yuletide and winter solstice) but I love the snowy scene crafting. Or the cosy fireside images, hot chocolate and woolly socks. Winter birds. 

Ok I’m rambling now. 

Back to the plaque…

I used an ARCH  (large) for the substrate and then by using one of the DOORS, a FENCE, and a TREE along with the SLEDGE and a couple of SNOWFLAKES I created a wintery scene.

I finished it off with the “LET IT SNOW” phrase.

I simply used bits of cardboard from the packaging my craft parts came in to cut out bricks to give the impression of bits of a wall. I only added enough to give a hint. I didn’t build the whole house.*

Since Louise originally created this project, we do now have Sheets of Mini Bricks as part of our Architectural Add Ons range.

(I used DecoArt snowtex and glamour dust glitter to creat my twinkling snow ).

I feel a bit lonely here, is there anyone else out there???

 

Difficult dark times for all of us, it can only get better!!! 

I think it's important to switch off sometimes and occupy yourself with things that make you happy.

 

I was inspired to create another mixed media project in wintry mood. I used a round plaque as base.

The small stairs and the roof was made with Notched Rectangle - Mini MDF Wood Shapes,

these are very exited little shapes, that have stimulated my imagination.

 Welcome in 2021 creative friends!

 

I was inspired to create a winter mood canvas in mixed media style.

I borrowed an acrylic ornament from the christmas tree and 

turned a ballerina into a dancing snowflake.

Christmas Trinket Box and Canvas

Well......this is my last post of 2019....where has the year gone?!

I altered a trinket box from the shop, using a gorgeous rose gold coloured paint.

The lid was given a bit of height with an ATC and I also snipped a part of a snowflake flourish to adorn it with.

I added random patches of embossed enamel around the sides.

I had a teeny canvas on my desk and a star left over from my last project. Using the same colours as the box, I did a quick Christmas tree using the back of the canvas.

A Calico Christmas Box of Delights - Julie Ann

As Christmas approaches, time seems to evaporate and I know that the very thought of the festive season can send me into a panic . My project this week is to leave all the feverish activity behind and to enter a world of stillness, in a 'box of magical delights': tales frozen in time that I hope will evoke a peaceful, snow-carpeted wonderland.

And buried under the snow, there will be treasures to discover.

The surprise discovery - the treasure in the snow - is a little mosaic of Calico blank tiles, decorated with a mirror-work square at the centre.

I wanted a Queen to gaze out onto my peaceful, winter wonderland so after creating a collage on the outer cube, I painted the shape of her head and shoulders in gesso in the corner, sketching in her features in grey water-colour pencil when the gesso was dry.

For the inner cube, I used only a collage of napkin tissue with a little stamping and a dribble of acrylic inks so that this section would be able to slide in and out easily.

In the stillness of the snow-scape, the deer leads my Queen Hermione to a refuge, a place where she can be safe from cold injustice and unkindness.

Even in the depths of Winter, the hare seems to leap for joy...

I loved creating wintry effects on the Calico parts, using no more than gesso and embossing powders. The new sheets of mini stag shapes have separate antlers. I used these to decorate the outside of the little forest refuge.

While the land sleeps under its snow blanket, life goes on, almost unnoticed: the roots sustain the tree and a single bird offers Hermione its gift of a winter song.

She knows that when the whole world seems gripped by Winter's cold grasp, Hope is strongest.

Ice flowers and frost fronds will melt into spring blossoms and new leaves...

So much life is there, under the ice!

This little box became a meditation as I worked on it, a reflection on how sometimes we need to be still, to observe Nature and to look within and find hope there.

I used a range of Calico Craft Parts on this box, old and new and even those not specifically festive-themed. These craft parts are so adaptable and easily altered to create a winter's tale. You can even just use parts, removing a detail you don't need. I snipped the cat off the end of this branch on my little woodland shrine and added snow to one of the tiny doors on an MDF sheet to make it more festive.
