Spring Cloche

 Hello!

Today a new spring decoration idea.

I used a cloche as base in which some dry sticking compound was fixed.

Chicks and roosters were too big, so they were simply split,

which is very easy with the MDF material. Crackle varnish was used

to give the nesting box a naturally weathered look.

If you have any further questions about the design of the individual MDF shapes,

you are welcome to ask here.

Hopefully spring is coming soon!!

Home Decor Altered Art - Springtime in Forest

 Hello everyone!

Today a new springtime inspiration.

Used a half metal egg as base, before it was a original box of chocolates.
that has been painted with light green chalk paint.
The background was completed with cutting dies (fern leaves).
A piece of floral foam was attached in the lower part of the egg,
shapes were inserted and on the front  glued on.
MDF shapes were primed with white gesso and
then painted with acrylic paints.
To compliment the natural look
I used dried branches with lichen.

??? Please, can somebody wake up Spring ???

😀😀😀

After Christmas and New Year's Eve it could be spring for me,
the older you get the less you like winter and
our temperatures really have something of early spring at the moment.

Snowdrops are starting to bloom, which gives hope.

I was inspired to create a canvas with a birdhouse,
Therefore I used a  MDF Block House Kit,
I added also a tree trunk, made with paper straws and mossy birchbark.

Easter Decor by Kerstin

Welcome creative friends!

In these gloomy times it's really not easy to sit down happily and relaxed

at the hobby table, but at some point you have to switch off.

I'm back to share with you my new Easter Home decoration.

I used a simply wooden bunny from an Euro Shop as base.

When I start a project like this I have never a plan,

I like to go with my intuition.

I choose three spring typical shapes and

was in love with the daffodils and chickens.

For the background I used water diluted chalk paint,

MDF shapes were painted with acrylics.

Branches on the ears are twigs from a picked tree.

Be creARTive - Album Cover Hello Spring

Welcome creative friends!

In this eternally grey winter weather, it helps to get into a better mood with handicrafts.

I made myself a mood book that gives me hope that spring will come soon.

Today I want to share with you the cover.

I used a mixed media board as base for the album cover
and covered it with fabric

Arch ATC was used as photo frame

Wild garden tag. By Zuzu

Hi there.

Today I’m sharing a jumbo tag featuring one of the lovely door shapes as well as grass, a flourish, leaves, a butterfly, and a lovely little wren.

I’ve used a piece of the packaging the craft parts were posted in to make my tag.

By tearing away some of the top layer and exposing the corrugated card underneath you can achieve some lovely texture.

I simply built up my layers, panted it all over with white gesso then applied paints with a lot of water. When it was dry I dry brushed it with more white gesso. Just enough gesso to catch the tops and highlight everything.

Window to the past by Zuzu

Hi there.

I’m sharing a little plaque today. I liked the look of all the doors and windows in the shop and when the postman brought them I was keen to use on on something… anything…

The substrate I’ve used is actually a piece of grey-board that the shop used to keep the craft parts from getting broken in the post. So it’s like a little free plaque.

And the photo is of my mum as a baby. I have two of these photos. one in the original sepia sort of colours and this one with the colour added (this is just a copy of the original). It is one of the few old family photos I have that has been colourised like this. Very interesting now that we take colour photos for granted. Wonder how much it cost my grandparents to have that done.

When I use craft part embellishments I often break off bits that fit the size and shape I need at the time so I am often left with little piles of left over broken flourishes and leaves etc. This little plaque was the perfect size to use some of those up. It’s going to be hard to give you a supply list for those little bits but I will do my best.

But it is worth noting that when you are selecting your flourishes, it’s a good idea to think about which ones you could break up into more than one piece to use in different ways.

Songbird trio (I used part of it in a previous project so mine is a songbird duo.)

Embellishing a layout: by guest designer Liling Payne

Hello Everyone

Again, thanks go to Louse Crosbie for the invitation to be a Guest Design Team member for May. You will have seen my first blog post which was an ocean theme and for this second one, I decided to do a completely different theme based on the lovely floral and butterfly elements that are among the wonderful range of products Calico Craft Parts sell. I also ordered an ATC blank with rabbit to do for my granddaughter as she has just lost her pet rabbit, so I thought this might be a nice wee memorial.

I used to think that mixed media was only about gothic, steampunk or grungy type media and it’s only since I started playing around with the media, that I realised it can be anything you like and it meets all crafting styles e.g. scrapbooking, cards, boxes and basically anything that you wish to embellish with the fabulous parts available from Calico Craft Parts so go ahead and give it a go.

I prepared all the pieces with a fine layer of white gesso and let it dry overnight (you can dry in a few minutes using a heat gun if you prefer). This gave me a base colour to which I added distress inks and a glacier paste for some shimmer

I decided to do a scrapbook page of my nephew’s wedding and used these parts to form a frame around the photo which I laid onto co-ordinating cardstock. I had coloured the beautiful calico craft parts to match the floral theme of the wedding.

I love how versatile the embellishments are and will definitely be using more elements

I then decided to use the ATC to make a memorial tag for my granddaughter and loved the rabbit in the bluebells which I coloured accordingly.

First of all I laid a base of white gesso and let it dry overnight (or you can dry in a couple of minutes with a heat gun if you do not like to wait).
I then decided to use my distress inks as watercolour to paint the background scene which I wanted to be an outdoors one for the frame which had the rabbit and bluebells.

Then I joined the frame and background to provide this lovely little ATC tag.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing how versatile the wooden embellishments can be and check out the website to see all the fabulous themes and designs you can make at an incredible price to enhance and embellish your crafty makes.

Springtime Birdhouse by Kerstin

Welcome!

Today is in the northern hemisphere, the official beginning of spring.

That inspired me to create a bird house in mixed media style.

I used delightful chalky colours for a naturally look.
