 Hello creative friends!

 Transform old items into new ones.

I came across an old Christmas decoration that was in great condition but not my style.

 I choose some Christmas MDF shapes and painted it white and blue and adding some glitter and gold accents. I had a few extra snowflakes from the snowflake wreath, so I used them as Christmas tree toppers. With a few bows, cones and bells, I quickly put together a new decoration to wish visitors a merry Christmas in the hallway.

Fabric Art collage - Peace on Earth Winterdream

  

  Hello everyone!

 

 I felt like working with fabric scraps again and create a art collage

 in winter christmas mood.

 

I sewed an adorable winter cottage from fabric scraps 

and  mixed different fabrics with jeans,

 added a door with a MDF shape. The natural colors of the shapes 

contrast very well with denim.

Several structure in background were made with fabric, 

wallpaper and corrugated cardboard

leftovers.

Baubles got some silver glitter and were backed with linen fabric.

Altered Art - Xmas Bottle

 

 Hello everyone!

 

Although Halloween is over,  these are the magical times of the year, 

we start with the preparations for christmas and 

long dark evenings invite again to tell stories.

 

I was inspired to create a new christmas gift project, 

it's a bottle in Altered Art.

 

I worked with Decoupage technique and combined this mixed media piece

 with MDF shapes, outcast's from silicone moulds and a lot of snow texture.

Woodland shrine. By Louise Crosbie

 

I seem to be a little obsessed with layering up these trees every winter but they are just so perfect for it. Especially as they come in several sizes.

I wanted to do a night sky scene with Santa but at the same time, I still love the natural wood colour. So I’ve combined the night sky on the outside with a more natural woodland vibe on the inside. I gave my shrine little feet using teeny wee thread bobbins so I can stand it on my shelf .

I’ve not been heavy handed with the paints. I didn’t want the colours to be too saturated. I painted it on then dabbed it off with a baby wipe, leaving just a small amount of colour.

The outside part of the shrine was first painted with black gesso. I then added a colour wash of midnight blue before taking sandpaper and sanding back all the edges. I just wanted to see a little hint of the natural wood to help tie it in to the inside part of the shrine.

Then I was able to glue Santa and the front trees into place. 

 It’s quite 3D inside as the shrine kit has a little bit of depth to it. I put the smallest of my trees at the back then layered more in front of them (as ever, I broke the pieces up to suit my desired effect). I glued a little stick half way in to give me something to glue the tree with the deer on to.

When everything was painted and glued, I added the decoArt snowtex and glamour dust glitter to everything along with some white paint splatters to make it look like it is snowing.

A vintage Christmas plaque by guest designer Lori Woods

 

Hello creative friends! I'm very happy to be back with my second guest design project for this month. 

For this project I wanted to keep it quite simple and really showcase some of the amazing MDF shapes available. I went for an old fashioned, shabby vintage look and kept the colour palette quite basic.

I started by covering one of the Gothic arch mixed media boards in white crackle paste. Once this dried I went around the edge with some gold paint.   

I applied a quick coat of white gesso to the Santa sleigh, Deco snowflakes corners, and Winter tree scene shapes and then coloured them with acrylic paints. To give that shabby snowy look, I then dry brushed white gesso over the top of everything. For the Mini deer sheet, the colour of the mdf was already perfect for the deer so I just gave them a gesso dry brush.

Then it was time to glue everything to the board. For the santa sleigh and the deer that are at the front of the composition, I layered some thick card underneath them so that they would pop out a little and give the piece some dimension. To finish everything off I added a star embellishment at the top of the arch to guide santa's sleigh! I hope this gives you some Christmassy inspiration for your seasonal crafting 🎄🎅

Let it snow plaque by Louise

 

Pretty title and much as I love to look at snowy scenes, I don’t much like having to go out in it unless it’s a walk in the woods or up the hills. Shopping and chores are not so great in snow so maybe it could hold off till late  December lol.

I made this plaque inspired by the lovely little sledge shape. I adore winter crafting. Not just christmas (or in my case Yuletide and winter solstice) but I love the snowy scene crafting. Or the cosy fireside images, hot chocolate and woolly socks. Winter birds. 

Ok I’m rambling now. 

Back to the plaque…

I used an ARCH  (large) for the substrate and then by using one of the DOORS, a FENCE, and a TREE along with the SLEDGE and a couple of SNOWFLAKES I created a wintery scene.

I finished it off with the “LET IT SNOW” phrase.

I simply used bits of cardboard from the packaging my craft parts came in to cut out bricks to give the impression of bits of a wall. I only added enough to give a hint. I didn’t build the whole house.*

Ideas for ATC frames: by Louise Crosbie.

 

Hi there. 

I know a lot of you will make and swap ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) but I also know a lot of you don’t. 

But that doesn’t mean you can’t still make great use of the ATC frames.

An ATC should be the same size/dimensions of all other official trading cards like baseball cards, Pokemon cards etc. And thus, they should fit in to the official trading card pocket pouches for collectors.

Sadly, nowadays, folks call just about any small piece of mixed media or paper raft an ATC, regardless of its actual shape and size. This makes it impossible to collect them the way they were intended. This is the reason I stopped collecting. I have two beautiful large lever arch folders filled with the official collectors pockets and each with a beautiful display of ATCs of the correct dimensions. But in my last few months of swapping, my returns were sadly not proper ATC dimensions and wouldn’t fit in to my collection.

However despite not doing ATCs anymore, I still had some of the gorgeous little (correct dimension lol) ATC frames. 

I turned one into a sort of miniature cabinet card for my little vintage fairy and put it on a rusty canvas. 

The second frame, I turned into a miniature junk journal which I intend to complete in a Yule theme so I can give it as a stocking filler gift.

These little frames are so versatile. They make great key fobs, wooden tags, embellishments for scrapbook pages and cards...

A Quick Christmas Card, Some Ornaments and Festive Home Decor - by Claudia

Hi, servus and I hope you're in the middle of enjoying the advent season (well, at least as much as possible this year)! 

Those who know me, know that I am not much of a Christmas crafting girl - as much as I love Christmas with decorating our tree and putting up candles and lights here and there! When it comes to creating cards or other Christmas related projects, I really start to struggle. I loved decorating presents when I was younger, but obviously habits change during a lifetime...and right now I am not only struggling with heavy side effects from a new medication (I won't bore you with details here, but heavily shaking hands definitely are not helpful either), but we're also furnishing the house we've recently bought (in our favourite Austrian lake district) - so it will be a bit of struggle to reconcile Christmas preparations and celebrations with planning and putting up furniture (and then still be relaxed enough on Christmas Eve to enjoy the festivities with the family)...

...but with the help of some of the lovely Christmas themed Calico Craft Parts even I managed to come up with something festive - which definitely helped put me in Christmas mood! 

I've created a card, a dome with a nativity scene and lit with tiny lights and also two ornaments for our tree (or to hang on Christmas presents alongside a little tag)!

I worked on all projects simultaneously and started with spraying all the chosen craft parts with DecoArt white Shimmer Mister. 

While the parts were set aside to dry, I unboxed the dome kit - a cheap DIY Christmas dome kit that comes with tiny lights, "snow" in a little plastic bag, a plastic dome and MDF base and some pre-cut Balsa wood pieces that I replaced with the Calico Craft Parts Nativity Scene and Fir Tree Trio. 

The picture below shows how I've cut the base plate from the kit into three sections. These were meant to work as stands for the nativity scene and tree trio (I just glued the craft parts between the base plate parts and all of this using matte Decou-Page to the MDF base of the dome kit - this way the wood shapes are kept upright and in place). 

While that was set aside to dry, I finished my Christmas card: I have a box of previously die cut or left over sentiments and picked the "seasons greetings" quote for my rural themed card with the tractor and its trailer with the tree. I use an old small detail brush and diluted Decou-Page to glue tiny die cuts into place. The MDF wood shape was glued on with Decou-Page directly from the bottle and I put a heavy weight on top during drying time to make sure all the parts of the wood shape got firmly glued to the Kraft card. 

Time to turn the dome upside down, fill it with the snow from the little bag and insert the tiny lights! 

The base had gotten a layer of DecoArt Chalky Finish paint "lace" before - but there was enough snow to neatly cover the whole base around the trees. 

Last thing to do was to fix little ribbons to the two ornaments as hanging devices - done! 

A quick card, two even quicker ornaments and a nostalgic nativity scene in a lit dome! The slight shimmer from the white Shimmer Mister added beautifully to the festive look of the ornaments and the nativity scene!
