Welcome Autumn by Astrid

Hello Calico Craft Part fans, welcome, - this is Astrid here after a long, long absence.
I have just returned from a almost 2 months trip to Australia (where it is winter), and though I have called my project "Welcome Autumn", - looking at it, it really has more of a wintry mood...., sorry about that.
As I am still trying to find my feet in my craft room, it's just a humble mixed media card.....
I used the wonderful Wood Red Oakleaf Branch in the medium size.

Here is a quick run down of how I put this card together:
I took a piece of card and randomly cut some stips of paper in muted colours and adhered them to the paper using Mod Podge. (Gel medium of any kind would do just as well).
As you can see I had a basic composition in mind, using the oak leaves as the focal point eventually. The papers are just there to provide some texture.
Next I covered everything in a fairly thick layer of Gesso and then added some background stamping with texture stamps.
I then played around with black spray ink and some kitchen roll. When it got a little too dark, some more gesso came to the rescue.
More texture was added with the help of a piece of frayed hessian (burlap for my American friends).
I added some cheese cloth still and then finally the oak leaves, covered in crackle glaze and inked around the edges.

A few final embellishments, mounting it all on Kraft card and it's done........
Well, hope I have shown that even just a couple of Craft Parts can help to create something arty.
Make sure to check out all the new Craftparts that are appearing every week, there's plenty to help you with all your Halloween and Autumnal projects. I can't wait to start playing with them soon.

Thank you for taking the time to visit today and see you next time!

  1. I´m always blown away with your gorgeous projects, and this is no different, that´s for sure. It´s absolut stunning and sooo beautiful and I don´t think it feels wintery to me at all, as these colors scream fall all over them, and it´s sooo gorgeous as ever. You´ve done an awesome job here as usual hun, and I love it.

  2. What a beautiful return, Astrid - a lovely piece of autumnal crafting, and yes definitely cuspish with winter. It has that bare bones, bleak beauty of a snowy winter's day. I love the treatment of the leaves and the curls of rusty wire.
