Wedding Heart Gift by Jennie

Hello and welcome fellow crafters!

With a couple of weddings coming up in the next few months my thoughts have been on how to give a small crafted wedding gift. I still have the horseshoe and heart presented to us on our wedding day (over 40 years ago) so thought a crafty version might be appropriate.

There is a huge selection of heart Birch Plywood Plaques to choose from at Calico Craft Parts and being  wood will survive some robust treatment on a wedding day! And you can have holes drilled all ready too!

I first painted the heart with gesso to seal the wood and then applied some crackle paste with a spatula here and there and then overlaid some texture paste through a stencil.

I decided not to go down the white/satiny look and opted instead for a bright colour. Bridesmaids tend to be dressed in the most gorgeous colours these days and so I thought it would be a lovely gesture to use similar colours (if you know what the colours are of course!).  I used a lot of water with these granular style powders and worked the colour into the crackle and around the texture paste.

I then used some smaller Calico Craft Part pieces for the decoration. A part of a lovely fence .......

.... thistle leaves (probably not greatly appropriate!) and those ever popular mini alphabet letters.

They have all been splodged with white paint, but I love the way the brown shows through here and there.

I painted some bought flowers with the same paint as the background, keeping the colour quite dense and then added some highlights with gold paint.

I always like to add some muslin and thin hessian twine under the flowers (it gives the flowers something to stick to!)

Being made of wood this would also make a lovely 5th Wedding Anniversary Present too.

As always thank you for joining me today and I hope my little wedding heart might inspire a crafty gift for someone.
