Mr. Hyde Goes Out by Claudia

Servus and hi! Claudia here to welcome you to my very first post over here as a regular member (Eeeek! Yesssss! Yessss! Yippeee!) of the fabulous Calico Craft Parts design team!

I love to create scenes and build up layers to achieve some depth, so the awesome Arch Shape Mixed Media Board and the Mini MDF Wood Lamp Posts inspired the idea for a nocturnal scene in Victorian England.

Calico Craft Parts used:

Arch Shape Greyboard Mixed Media Board (2x)
Mini MDF Wood Lamp Posts Style 3
Gothic Style Decorative Hinge
Sheet of Mini MDF Wood Crowns Style 3
Sheet of Mini MDF Wood Wings Style 3
Leafy Vine MDF Wood Corner Embellishment Style 37

I started with die cutting the house shapes and my archway (freehand) from heavy black card and glueing them to the arch using matte DecoArt Decou-page. I also arranged the corner embellishment, little crown and wings and hinge on the other arch and glued them on as well.

Then I painted everything with loose brushstrokes, mixing Carbon Black, Medium Grey and Titanium White acrylic paints directly on the mixed media board making sure I would leave visible brush strokes of each colour.

The lamp post and inn sign were painted that way too, but not yet glued to the scene, because I wanted to paint the windows first (using a mix of Titan Buff and Primary Yellow DecoArt Media fluid acrylics).  Once all the shades and the halo from the lamp post were painted, the lamp post and inn sign were glued on too.

To add some additional texture to the door I randomly applied some DecoArt Media Texture Sand paste with my fingertip. Once all was dry I drybrushed everything with a mix of Titan Buff and Primary Yellow to make it match the colours of the scene.

The butt hinge was made of a popsicle stick and painted the same way.

The sign of the Cranky Toad Inn was handwritten using a fine tip permanent black marker.

I also made sure I added reflections of the moonlight as well as those of the light from the lamp post to make all my pieces blend together.

Mr. Hyde was stamped using black archival ink, fussy cut and glued to the scene with matte Decou-page. I made sure I also gave him a good sealing coat so I could tone the image down with some diluted Carbon black Antiquing Cream.

Once I was content with the result I added the yellow and pale white highlights and the stamped quote.

I created a hinge from a piece of white linen ribbon and glued it to the back of my arches.

Then I covered the backsides with some cut to size designer paper.

Et voilá!

I wonder what Mr. Hyde is up to. I am pretty sure it is nothing good. ;)

Hugs and happy crafting!

  16. I was wondering where Mr. Hyde came from? Was he a stamp or just an image you used?
